FAQ: Travel Spanish in Mexico

Start with "¿Cómo llego a...?" (How do I get to...?) followed by the place. You'll hear responses like "Siga derecho" (Go straight), "Doble a la derecha" (Turn right), and "Está a la vuelta" (It's around the corner).

Ask "¿Cuánto cobra hasta el centro?" (How much to downtown?) before getting in. Say "Lléveme a esta dirección, por favor" and when you arrive, "Bájeme en la esquina, por favor." Many Mexicans also use Uber and Didi apps.

In Mexico, "camión" means "bus" — not "truck" like in other Spanish-speaking countries. So "¿Dónde está la parada del camión?" means "Where's the bus stop?" This is one of many words unique to Mexican Spanish.

Say "Tengo una reservación" (I have a reservation) or "Quiero hacer una reservación" (I'd like to make a reservation). Useful follow-ups: "¿Cuánto cuesta por noche?" and "¿Incluye desayuno?"

Say "Me perdí" (I got lost) or "No sé dónde estoy" (I don't know where I am). Then ask "¿Me puede ayudar, por favor?" while showing an address on your phone.
